Bug hunt

Production bugs are loose on the campus. Squash them with a golf ball blaster before they eat all your morale.

  1. Fire.
  2. Bank it. Balls bounce off walls, and a squash off a bounce pays double. Firewalls only fall to bank shots, hits from behind, the putter or the sand wedge.
  3. Golf calls in backup. Sink par or better on any hole for a supply drop, a birdie strike or an eagle strike.
  4. Grab pick-ups. Bugs drop clubs (driver, range bucket, sand wedge, putter), coffee and donuts. Pick a perk after every wave. A boss turns up every fifth.

Workload

You're in a squad. Leave it on the Squad tab to hunt on your own.

Squads run on the public version of the game. Open andrewwu12.github.io/nine-to-five-links, choose Play in 3D, then Bug hunt.

Add your name so your squad can tell who's who.

Everyone plays in their own browser, from anywhere. You all fight the same bugs, and you can bring a teammate back by standing next to them when they're out sick.

In the squad

Someone else tried to join, but the squad is full. Four is the limit.

    Nine-to-Five Links

Office mini golf for the whole team. Nine holes, one for every hour of the workday.

Everyone in the same room plays the same holes at the same time, from wherever they are, and sees each other's shots live. Leave the code blank to start a new room. You'll get a link to send your coworkers.

Online rooms run on the public version of the game. Open andrewwu12.github.io/nine-to-five-links and choose Online room there.

Earn stars on every hole: one for par, two for a birdie, three for a hole in one or an eagle. Your best score on each hole counts, in any building except the Workshop, in normal or Rage mode. Daily goals, secrets and golden balls pay bonus stars on top. Stars are saved on this device; on one screen, they go to the first player.

                How to play

                Putt
Press anywhere on the course and drag back, like a slingshot. The farther you pull, the harder you hit. Let go to putt, or slide back to where you started to cancel.
                Keyboard
Arrow keys aim and set power. Hold Shift for fine control. Space or Enter putts.
                Read the green
Every green slopes a little, and the chevrons point downhill, so putts curve that way as they slow down. Greens vary in speed too, and the bar at the top says when one is fast or slow: fast greens roll out further, slow ones come up short.
                Turns
On one screen, each player finishes the hole, then hands over. Whoever scored best on the last hole tees off first.
                Online
Choose Online room and send your coworkers the invite link. Everyone plays the same hole at the same time on their own device and sees each other's balls. The next hole starts when everyone has finished, or you can go on ahead.
                Scoring
Seven strokes max per hole. Hazards cost a stroke, and you play again from where you hit: coffee spills, the shredder, the loading dock, the service pit, puddles, open floor tiles, pool pockets, gutters, the pinball drain and the CEO’s koi pond.
                Stars
Every hole pays stars for your best score on it: one for par, two for a birdie, three for a hole in one or an eagle. Stars build your career from Intern to CEO and beyond, with a fanfare for each promotion, and the chips on the setup card show where you stand. On a shared screen, the first player earns them.
                The Locker
Stars unlock balls and trails: a stress ball, a coffee bean, an eight ball, confetti, neon, flames, solid gold and more. Open the Locker on the setup card to see what’s next, pick what to wear, and find the stars within easiest reach, each one tap from practice.
                Daily goals
Three goals a day, the same for everyone, like “Make 2 birdies” or “Hole out off a wall”. Each pays a bonus star, and finishing all three pays one more. Bonus stars count toward your title and unlocks.
                Hot streaks
Two holes under par in a row sets you on fire: a flaming ball until you make a bogey. Par keeps it going.
                Golden balls
About once in 40 holes of a regular round, your ball turns gold. Sink it at par or better for a bonus star.
                Trick shots
Hole out off a wall, a bumper, a forklift, a conveyor or a pinball bumper and the office calls the shot: bank shot, double bank, off the forklift, sushi express and more.
                Secrets
Sixteen things to find around the buildings and the campus, each worth a bonus star. The Locker drops hints.
                Play in 3D
The whole campus in first person. You start at the first hole of the building you picked: tap Play this hole, or Play all 9 holes for a full round on today's pins with the scorecard, for everyone on the setup card. Drag sideways to aim and pull down for power, or use the arrow keys and Space. From above looks down on the hole. Between holes you can walk anywhere: in and out of every building, past the pond and the taco truck. Stand on any hole to play it. On a computer, WASD walks, the mouse looks and Space jumps; on a phone, your left thumb walks and your right one looks.
                Bug hunt
A shooter inside Play in 3D: press Bug hunt on the course pass, or the red Bug hunt button (or B) while you walk. Bugs come in waves: crawlers, walking printers, meeting invites, reply-all swarms, merge conflicts that split in two and firewalls that block straight shots, with a boss every fifth wave (Legacy Code, then Spaghetti Code). Squash them with the golf ball blaster. Balls bounce off walls, and a squash off a bounce is a bank shot worth double. Bugs drop clubs (a driver that sprays seven balls, a range bucket that fires fast, a sand wedge whose balls burst, a putter that goes through everything), coffee, donuts and golden balls. After each wave, pick one of three perks. Sink par or better on any hole for backup: a supply drop, a birdie strike or an eagle strike. Choose a workload (Intern, Manager or Crunch time) and hunt alone, or start a squad of up to four and send the link: you all fight the same bugs, and you can bring a teammate back by standing next to them when they're out sick. On a computer, click or hold to fire (F works too), R reloads and Space jumps; on a phone, hold Fire and slide it to aim. The balls go straight through coworkers.
                Practice
Tap a hole on the campus map, or a star within reach in the Locker, to play it on its own. Press Retry, or R, to start again from the tee.
                Challenges
After a round, Challenge a coworker copies a link with your scores. Whoever opens it plays the same pins and greens, sees what you shot on each hole, and gets a verdict at the end, with a link to send it back. The game keeps your head-to-head record against each coworker, from challenges and from rounds played together.
                Daily Hole
One hole a day from the five buildings, with a twist: a tiny cup, an icy floor, bouncy walls and so on. Everyone gets the same hole and twist that day. You get three tries and the best one counts, then share your result with your team. Play one every workday to build a streak. Weekends never break it.
                Your ghost
Play a hole again on the same layout and a faint ball replays your best run on it, stroke by stroke, so you can see where you gained or lost.
                The penthouse
There’s a sixth building, and it isn’t on the campus map. Earn 100 stars and your badge opens the CEO’s private elevator: nine executive holes from 10 AM to 2 PM, with a vault, a helipad and a koi pond, and stars of their own. In an online room, a host who has it can take everyone up.
                Rage mode
Waxed floors, bouncy walls, a smaller cup, faster everything, shaky hands and no aim guide. A Roomba roams the course and bumps your ball, hazards send you back to the tee, and the elevator and the garage ramp sometimes take you to the wrong floor. Ten strokes max per hole.
                Taunts
The office has opinions about your putting. Press Heckle to hear them, or in an online room press Taunt to send your coworkers a line. Turn taunts off in the menu.
                Buildings
Head Office runs the day shift, 9 AM to 5 PM. The Factory Floor runs second shift, 3 PM to 11 PM, with forklifts, conveyor lines, robot arms, oil spills and a loading dock to fall off, and it gets darker as the shift goes on. The Parking Garage is the morning rush, 7 to 9 AM: cars pulling out, barrier arms, speed bumps, flung-open doors, a car wash and a ramp up to the roof. The Game Room is after hours, 5 PM to 1 AM: pinball, air hockey, foosball, pool, bowling, skee-ball and a spinning dance floor. The Data Center runs the graveyard shift, 11 PM to 7 AM, with cooling fans that push your ball around, open floor tiles, tape robots and a power cut.
                The campus
Press Explore the campus on the setup card, or Campus map in the menu, to see every building on one map. Drag to look around and pinch or scroll to zoom. Coworkers walk the halls, traffic runs down the streets, and the sun follows your clock; tap the clock for a time-lapse. Tap any hole to practice it on its own. Between holes in a round, the camera flies you to the next one.
                The workshop
Build your own holes with Build a course on the setup card, or build them together from an online room's clubhouse, where everyone edits the same holes live and sees each other's cursors. Pick a shape, then place walls, bumpers, rugs, ramps, conveyors, spills, movers and props. Each hole has a 60-point budget, limits on hazards, movers and props, and a clear space around the tee and the cup. A test bot plays every design; once it finishes, the hole is playable and gets its par, and The Workshop appears as a building you can play.
                Knock things over
Cones, cup pyramids, boxes, chairs, bins, water jugs, oil drums, tape cartridges, pool balls, bowling pins, champagne glasses, gold bars and medicine balls all move when you hit them. Hit a box, crate or water jug hard enough and it breaks, and a champagne glass shatters. A burst jug or a tipped oil drum leaves the floor slippery. Knock down all ten pins for a strike.
                Course
Pin positions change every day. Everyone on today's pins, or on the same group code, plays the same layout, so scores compare fairly across devices.
